Our Taste Turkey Cruise really is something unique, a rare opportunity to relax and sail aboard the fabulous luxury Juliette, a traditional handcrafted wooden gullet, alongside learning to cook fantastic local cuisine.  The idea is simple and works well, each morning over breakfast we get together to discuss the day ahead.  Jane is a successful hotelier and restaurateur who had a fabulous boutique hotel famed for its traditional cuisine.  She has since sold her business to focus on her passions, sailing and cookery. She tailors her teaching according to the interests of her intimate group.  Jane will teach us a whole feast of dishes from simple village breakfasts to tasty mezzes, local fish dishes, vegetarian, meat and chicken mains—all using organic, local ingredients and spices.

As we learn we sail, seeing the coastline the only way it really should be seen. Our Captain, Turgay sets sail from Fethiye, up the coastline stopping at secluded bays and places of interest on the way for opportunities to swim, snorkel and sunbathe.  We moor at night in different locations in bays and in harbour towns and villages.

Both Jane and Turgay speak excellent English and Turkish and are interesting characters, knowing a lot about the local area, history and culture.  Their passion comes across well on this cruise and really offers those who take part the opportunity to learn about traditional cuisine and culture.  The lessons are varied, when in harbour you can choose to accompany Jane to the fresh markets to get the ingredients and spices and whilst sailing you can even try and catch the fish for the days meal (if not, don’t worry, we can stop a local fisherman en route!).  An example itinerary is as follows:

EXAMPLE COOK & CRUISE ITINERARY  - FETHİYE – KEKOVA – FETHİYE

Day 1

WELCOME ABOARD!  We meet our boat, Juliette in Fethiye. Having been shown to our cabins and settled in we meet up with Jane and Turgay for a welcome drink and light meal. We talk over the week ahead, what's in store and get to know one another before retiring to our cabins for a good nights sleep.

Day 2

Following breakfast we leave Juliette and take a trip into Fethiye to buy the supplies for the weeks cooking.  We visit the spice and local vegetable and fish markets, marvel at the range of organic ingredients and spices on offer then head back to the boat for a light lunch of mezzes and salads.  We set sail shortly after towards Oludeniz (dead sea), the resort famed for its fabulous lagoon.  If conditions are right we can moor offshore, if not we head towards Gemiler Island.  There is opportunity to swim and sunbathe before the first of our lessons on how to cook that nights supper.  Jane will have gone through the menus with you on over the morning so it is hard to give specific examples of dishes, she tends to tailor the cuisine to the guests tastes and interests. We settle in Gemiler for our evening meal and an overnight stay.

Day 3

An early start for Juliettte and Turgay as we head for Camliburun for breakfast.  Here we get taught simple village breakfast recipes to set us up for the day.  We have a little time to take a dip before heading off towards Kas—Limanagzi where we have lunch and a swimming break.  We then make a plan for the evenings menu and move on to Kas, a lively working harbour town with a dramatic mountainous backdrop and  some lovely little shops and bars.  We learn to make a selection of mezzes as we sail and a main course before eating our hard work that evening as we are moored in Kas.  Following dinner we have time to explore. Kas is a busy little place, its maze of cobbled streets are full of craft shops and interesting little places.  It’s a good opportunity to buy any souvenirs you may wish to take home or alternatively just to get a drink on the harbour front and watch the world go by.  Overnight stay in Kas.

Day 4

Another early start for Kekova-kiliseli Bay where we get woken for breakfast.  We have a dip to wake ourselves up then sail onto the sunken city of Kekova where we are able to moor just a few meters away giving us a great chance to swim, snorkel and explore.  The famous ruins can be seen clearly due to the fantastic visibility of the Turkish waters.  They are almost a mile long and really should be seen to be believed, a truly spectacular sight. We head on to Tersane Bay where Jane teaches us another local dish before heading on to Aquarium Bay for an overnights stay.

Day 5

After breakfast we move onto Kalekoy where there are no land visitors, just an interesting Crusader Castle with a small amphitheatre.  This historic village is littered with Lycian tombs and metrifications so after lunch you get a chance to explore.  We then leave for Turquoise Cave where there is time to swim before an evening cookery lesson and overnight stay in Gokkaya. .

Day 6

Following breakfast in Limanagzi we travel on to Yesilkoy for lunch and time to relax and swim.  We get taught yet another fabulous dish as we cruise onto Kalkan for an overnights stay.  Kalkan is another little harbour town nestled into a steep bay with mountains and forests around.  Its offers another option to potter and explore, its steep cobbled streets packed with locals and tourists seeking out bargain crafts and silver.  After dinner we can walk or go for a drink in one of the fabulous little bars.

Day 7

We leave early on day seven for Butterfly Valley, a truly special bay tucked between 2000 foot high cliffs, accessible only by boat or paraglider and famed for its moths and butterflies.  Popular with backpackers and travelers, there is a small settlement her with camping and tree houses.  Towards the back of the valley is a pretty little waterfall.  We stay here for lunch and an afternoon at leisure before sailing onto Fethiye for an overnights stay.  The last night is really a feast.  No more cooking for you, just a time to enjoy Jane and her teams fabulous leaving feast. Following dinner there is ample time to wonder through Fethiye, buy any last minute presents before returning for a good nights sleep.

Day 8

Breakfast and farewells.  We can organize your transfer to the airport or to your split centre accommodation or hotel.  (Additional costs may apply)
